Colour, Contrast, and Character: Designing the Centric Collection

Colour, Contrast, and Character: Designing the Centric Collection

When I was designing the interior scheme for Centric in Liverpool, I wanted it to feel exciting and full of personality, while still being somewhere you’d genuinely want to live. That’s how the Centric Collection came to life, it balances bold design moments with comfort and functionality.

My aim was to create a space that felt memorable and fun. The apartments use colour and contrast in a way that feels playful and unexpected. Every element has a purpose, whether it adds visual interest or helps create spaces that feel comfortable and inviting. To balance the bolder moments, I’ve used warm oak tones throughout the living areas and bedrooms. These natural finishes help soften the colour palette and keep the spaces feeling welcoming and easy to live in.

In the living space, colour plays a big role in shaping the overall feel. I used ink-patterned cushions with navy detailing to tie in with the blue feature wall and carry that colour through the room. Repeating these tones helps the space feel cohesive and pulled together. I also added a white and chocolate-brown throw with an abstract pattern to the sofa, bringing in a cosy, soft layer that makes the space feel more relaxed.

Above the bed, I chose a framed artwork with pops of orange to introduce warmth and tie into the wider colour palette. Set against the soft pink wall, it brings everything together and adds a finished feel to the space. On the bed, black-and-white cushions with an orange stripe echo the artwork, with navy cushions layered behind them to subtly reference the living room colours. It’s a small detail, but it helps the spaces feel connected and creates a calm, welcoming bedroom.

Throughout the apartment, the interiors were designed to complement the colourful kitchen. The terrazzo tile backsplash was a key starting point, and colours were pulled directly from it to create a cohesive feel across the space. White and black speckled storage jars in the kitchen echo the terrazzo pattern, adding a subtle finishing touch that ties the look together. This sense of cohesion flows through into the modern bathroom, which finishes the apartment with a clean, contemporary edge.
